Netizens hail Agong’s statement that corrupted officials are traitors of the nation

A STERN reminder from the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Ibrahim, particularly on the fight against corruption, echoed in the Dewan Rakyat this week as it convened the First Meeting of the Fifth Session of the 15th Parliament last Monday.

In a royal address touching on various matters of national importance, His Majesty stressed that efforts to eradicate corruption must not take into account rank or position, while warning that all Members of Parliament, members of the government administration and civil servants involved in corruption are “traitors to the nation”.

His remarks gained full support from the online community, where a good number of netizens pointed out Najib Razak as a valid recipient of said title.

“Confirm there will be no royal pardon for Najib Razak,” added @pengesanpenipu in a video post on X which carried the Agong’s statement.

“Akmal, did you hear it? Understand?” said @dezmond_bo among many other things. “Hope you guys who still love Jibby listen carefully, yeah?” said @PREMPUCHONG.

Netizen @Sky0ne_ suggested that the Agong add another wrong doing to the list and it is not paying one’s taxes.

“I have mentioned before that I came to Kuala Lumpur to hunt down corrupt individuals, and it appears that I have succeeded in finding them. This is merely a fraction of a mountain, or the tip of the iceberg, and it also includes those within this chamber who will continue to be pursued until they are found,” His Majesty continued.

The firm address underscored that the fight against corruption must be comprehensive, targeting not only those who receive bribes but also those who give them and any parties involved, while directing the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission to act swiftly and fairly, without being influenced by rank or position.

The Agong’s statement couldn’t have come at a more appropriate time with Najib’s recent statement at the High Court that RM42 mil deposited into his personal bank accounts was not linked to a purported Saudi donation, based on “subsequent knowledge” he acquired. Coincidence? — Focus Malaysia
