JITRA: Six shoplots in Kampung Simpang 4 Kerpan, Ayer Hitam, here were destroyed in a fire this evening.

Senior operations commander, Senior Fire Officer I Ahmad Aminuddin Abd Rahim, said the Fire and Rescue Department received an emergency call about the incident at 3.29pm.

He said a team of 13 personnel from the Jitra Fire and Rescue station arrived at the scene shortly afterwards and brought the fire under control with assistance from 40 members of nine volunteer fire brigades.

"The operations commander reported that upon arrival, the fire involved six shoplots of different classes, with the extent of damage estimated at about 80 per cent," he said in a statement today.

Ahmad Aminuddin said no casualties were reported and the fire was fully controlled at 5.04pm.

He added that investigations into the cause of the fire and the estimated losses are ongoing. - NST
