BERSATU leader Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin is under constant attack and criticism from within Perikatan Nasional (PN) and from PAS, says his former principal private secretary Datuk Dr Marzuki Mohamad.
He alleged that Muhyiddin is facing coordinated internal and external attacks aimed at forcing his exit from Bersatu and PN. He also claimed the pressure involves proxies linked to Bersatu deputy president Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin and leaders from PAS.
Marzuki said these manoeuvres are intended to reshape PN’s leadership structure to PAS’ advantage while weakening Muhyiddin’s authority.
“Within the party, the deputy president – whose constitutional duty is to assist the president – uses dirty hands every day to attack the president. Attack after attack is also being aggressively launched from leaders of allied parties. Words like ‘get out’ and ‘your time is finished’ have openly come from the mouths of PAS leaders.
“‘Friends eating friends’ is a harsh jibe by PAS leaders directed at Muhyiddin,” Marzuki said in a Facebook post.
Marzuki acknowledged that Muhyiddin is not a perfect human being but said the time has not yet come for him to step down.
He suggested Hamzah could assume Bersatu’s presidency but not the premiership and warned that Bersatu risks eventual dissolution amid ongoing power struggles.
And because of that, PAS vice-president Datuk Seri Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar was willing to travel to London to meet Muhyiddin to seek his support to be named chairman of PN, he said.
PAS spiritual adviser Datuk Hashim Jasin and PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang also paid visits to Muhyiddin at his home.
Marzuki interpreted efforts to remove Muhyiddin from PN and Bersatu as being beneficial to two parties.
“For PAS, PN’s problems will be resolved once Muhyiddin steps aside. PAS can then appoint its own person as PN chairman. There would be no need to amend PN’s constitution.
“The proposal to establish a Presidential Council and an Executive Council, as contained in Hadi’s letter to Muhyiddin in December 2024, was merely intended to restrain Muhyiddin’s power as PN chairman, not to strengthen PN.”
Marzuki suggested that Hamzah would then dissolve Bersatu and bring its members back to UMNO.
Therefore, Marzuki stated that Muhyiddin should step down honourably, as the groups pushing from within and outside Bersatu are incapable of appreciating Muhyiddin’s leadership. — Focus Malaysia
