If PAS were greedy, it wouldn’t have allowed another party to take the lead in Perikatan Nasional, party information chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari said.
Commenting on a Berita Harian report that cited an unnamed Bersatu source as calling the Islamist party greedy, Fadhli said PAS had only raised concerns about PN’s leadership after Bersatu took a “worrying” direction.
“PAS only wants to save the situation and move with the right actions ahead of the 16th general election.
“You (Bersatu) and a few of your leaders seem not to be interested in that direction,” he said in a statement on social media.
According to the report, the source said PAS’ greed was shown in its refusal to invite former PN chairperson Muhyiddin Yassin to the coalition’s supreme council meeting, which they said was a clear indication that the party is scrambling to lead PN.
“This greed will eat away at PAS itself because some of its leaders are crazy about grabbing positions,” they said.

However, the extraordinary PN supreme council meeting had been cancelled in favour of a pre-council meeting involving top coalition leaders at Muhyiddin’s residence in Bukit Damansara last night.
Those invited to the meeting include Malaysian Indian People’s Party (MIPP) president P Punithan, Gerakan president Dominic Lau, MIPP deputy president S Subramaniam, Bersatu vice-president Ahmad Faizal Azumu, and Gerakan information chief Wendy Subramaniam.
No PAS leaders were spotted at the meeting. Also absent was Bersatu deputy president Hamzah Zainudin, who told the press that he had not been invited.
‘Unconstitutional’ meeting, disputed ‘consensus’
Yesterday, PN deputy secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan said the pre-council meeting was “unconstitutional”.

While PN’s constitution included a provision for the creation of a “presidential council”, Takiyuddin said that the body was never formed.
Two days ago, leaked correspondence between Muhyiddin and PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang showed their opposing views on a purported “consensus” reached during a Jan 16 meeting at the Pagoh MP’s home to resolve matters arising from his resignation.
Among others, Muhyiddin claimed that an agreement had been reached to establish a presidential council led by Bersatu and an executive council led by PAS, and to abolish the position of PN chairperson, which the Islamist party is eyeing.
Based on the purported consensus, Muhyiddin also requested the cancellation of the extraordinary PN supreme council meeting called by Takiyuddin, which included appointing a new PN chairperson on the agenda.

Hadi, in a purported letter responding to Muhyiddin, claimed that the proposed resolution referred to by the Bersatu leader was neither discussed nor agreed to.
Turmoil in Bersatu
The rift within PN follows dissent in Bersatu, where a growing faction has expressed dissatisfaction with Muhyiddin’s leadership of the party, indicating a preference for Hamzah to take over instead.
During Bersatu’s annual general meeting in September last year, several delegates had openly called for Muhyiddin to resign, fuelling speculation of a move to replace him with Hamzah through statutory declarations.
Since then, Bersatu has sacked former supreme council members Saifuddin Abdullah and Wan Saiful Wan Jan, along with four division chiefs, deepening the party’s internal turmoil. - Mkini
