FORMER de facto law minister Datuk Zaid Ibrahim says he is sick of the widespread cases of sodomy in Tahfiz schools and madrasahs, calling for those responsible to be charged, jailed and whipped.
“There you go again; in this Islamic country, sexual perverts are free to dabble in their favourite pastime, under the cover of teaching the Quran with impunity,” he wrote.
He added: “The Mudir, or persons responsible for taking care of students, have abused their position to commit repeated sexual acts on the children and should be charged, jailed and whipped.
“This is more serious than a breach of trust involving money. You destroyed the lives of many boys.”
According to him, the police have already said the widespread cases of sodomy are alarming, and religious authorities should have acted quickly.
He was commenting on the widespread cases of liwat (sodomy) in Tahfiz schools and Madrasahs.
He also directed his dissatisfaction towards the Religious Department and Malay political parties, whom he said are silent on the matter.
He urged the Prime Minister (PM) Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to give his thoughts on this issue.
“Is the Religious Department’s interest in khalwat, or close proximity, and other moral issues like LGBT a ruse to divert attention from buggery that is widespread in religious schools?
“Why are the Malay political parties like PAS keeping silent? Can the PM say something about this infectious habit? Is sodomy now acceptable sexual conduct?”
Reacting to Zaid’s post on Facebook, a user, Kok Yuen Loh, referencing wars and peace time, said men, once being scarce, married multiple wives, but now, with women more liberated, men are forced to shift their behaviour.
“During the era of war, many males went to join their maker/lord. So normalised to have up to 4 wives. End of wars, could it be insufficient females or ladies being more choosy, so some males are turning to other avenues.”
The big question has always been why are parents still sending their innocent children to these places when stories of sodomy, rape and other abuses are so common.

“Datuk, what bugs my mind is why are the parents still sending their children to such madrasah. There are other alternatives, such as KAFA, where the children could acquire knowledge in Islam.
“Is it right to assume the parents are shirking their responsibility and accept that it is takdir that their children have been molested?”
But for Yasmin Hameed, it is a question of priorities:
“They are busy raiding parties and clubs where consensual adults are doing their own thing, because that gives them positive media coverage.
“While dealing with kids, it makes them look useless. And as another commenter said, “And as another commenter said – they are just stressed…”
