Duo charged with murder after hiding in Cambodia for 4 years

PETALING JAYA:

 Two men have been charged in the Bukit Mertajam magistrates’ court with murder after fleeing the country and hiding in Cambodia for four years.

No plea was made by Lee Boon Xuan, 39, and Siow Peir Sheng, 33, as murder cases fall under the High Court’s jurisdiction.

The pair was charged with the murder of Willy Yap, 35, at a convenience store in Kampung Baru, Bukit Mertajam, on May 14, 2022, Harian Metro reported.

The charge under Section 302 of the Penal Code is punishable by death or 30 to 40 years in prison and a minimum of 12 strokes of the rotan, if convicted.

Magistrate Roshayati Radellah fixed June 22 for mention and did not allow bail for the duo.

The pair’s lawyer, A Mahesh, said his clients had been residing in Cambodia for the past four years, having left Malaysia soon after the alleged offence was committed. - FMT
