Cabinet declassifies Tabung Haji RCI report, special Parliamentary sitting set for debate

 

PETALING JAYA: The Cabinet today (July 29) declassified the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) report into Tabung Haji covering the period from 2014 to 2020, saying that it will be tabled and debated at a special sitting of the Dewan Rakyat.

Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil, who is also the Unity Government spokesperson, said the Cabinet was briefed by Tabung Haji's top management and reviewed the findings of the RCI report.

"The Cabinet agreed to declassify the report and make it public today. The report will also be tabled and debated at a special sitting of the Dewan Rakyat in the near future," Fahmi said in a statement today (July 29).

The Cabinet noted that the report contains 25 recommendations for improvements, of which Tabung Haji's top management has already implemented 75%, he said.

The Cabinet also noted that Tabung Haji had declared a 3.5% profit distribution for the 2025 financial year, reflecting that its management is now in a stronger position.

"The Cabinet further decided that a full investigation by the relevant enforcement agencies based on the findings of the report will proceed immediately, and that those involved will be brought to justice should any violations of the law be established," he said.

On Monday (July 27), Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the Cabinet would decide whether to make the report public after it was formally tabled and reviewed.

He said the government must follow due process before deciding on releasing the findings, with any action taken in accordance with the law.

Anwar had previously said he supported making the findings public, but stressed that proper procedures had to be observed. He added that the report was not released earlier to avoid undermining public confidence in the fund. - Star
