Malaysia’s craziest Roti Canai literally flies over diners’ heads

THERE are many reasons why Roti Canai is among the most iconic meals in Malaysia. It is delicious, affordable, quickly prepared and available almost everywhere.

But a restaurant is taking Roti Canai to new heights, literally, with its breathtaking aerial show.

The performance was best captured by a recent video post on X by netizen @ameydeen_. In the video, the dough was sent soaring across the dining space by one of the cooks, only to be deftly retrieved by another.

At Roti Terbang Kampung Mizan 6 in Melaka, the dining experience also involves roti canai flying above one’s head.

But be careful. An article on Says.com dated year 2022 tells a story of a “rogue” Roti Canai crash landing onto the face of a customer.

Thankfully, the customer did not take offense over the incident and even received RM50 by the owner of the restaurant.

According to the food blog MyMakanTV, Mizan, the owner of the restaurant, once won a Roti Canai flying competition.

One can only wonder how a Roti Canai competition is carried out but we can all agree that it will be a sight to behold.

People who want to watch the flying Roti Canai show at the restaurant will have to come by at 9pm, 10pm, 11pm and 12am. The performance happens only four times a day.

The blogger also advised readers to try out some of the signature dishes there such as the Roti Jepun, Nasi Lemak Biasa and Asam Pedas with rice, all offered at an affordable  price.

So the next time someone tells you Malaysian food is out of this world, they may not be exaggerating.

Just remember to keep one eye on your teh tarik and the other on the skies. You never know when a Roti Canai might be cleared for take-off.— Focus Malaysia
