Lorry attendant jailed 38 months for kidnapping, hurting teen

KULIM:

A lorry attendant was sentenced to 38 months’ imprisonment by the magistrates’ court here today after pleading guilty to kidnapping a Form 2 student and causing hurt to the teenager last week.

Magistrate Nur Hamizah Mat Shah sentenced M Shyrichs, 39, to 38 months’ jail for the kidnapping offence, and five months’ imprisonment for causing hurt.

The court ordered both sentences to run concurrently from the date of arrest on July 24.

Shyrichs was charged with kidnapping the 14-year-old girl in front of SMK Dato Lela Pahlawan in Padang Serai at 6.30pm on July 23.

He was charged under Section 361 of the Penal Code, punishable under Section 363 of the same code, which carries a maximum jail term of seven years and a fine, upon conviction.

He was also charged with intentionally causing hurt to the girl at the same place, date and time under Section 323 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum jail term of one year, or a fine of up to RM2,000, or both, upon conviction. - FMT
