Explain what regulations govern house arrest, says Muhyiddin

 The Bersatu president says it is important for the public to understand what it entails and the processes and regulations involved.

Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin said he wanted to know if the regulations governing house arrest were similar to those in prison.

The regulations governing house arrest for former Umno president Najib Razak must be explained to the public by the government and the home ministry, says Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin.

He said it was important for the public to understand what house arrest entails and the processes and regulations involved. Muhyiddin said he wanted to know if the regulations were similar to those in prison.

“If there is no law governing house arrest yet, what are the existing regulations? If a special law is required, it should be drafted and brought to Parliament,” said Muhyiddin, a former home minister and prime minister. “So far, I don’t know what regulations are used in the implementation of house arrest. Is he free to do what he likes, or is he limited?”

Muhyiddin’s remarks came after Najib was granted a house arrest order by the Kuala Lumpur High Court today after Umno paid a RM50 million fine, a condition of a royal pardon granted in September. However, the Attorney-General’s Chambers has called for him to remain in prison pending a review of legal matters in the case. - FMT
