PETALING JAYA:
Bersatu’s Pengkalan Batu candidate Norhizam Hassan Baktee has given those who circulated an old video, which showed him in an altercation with local authority officers, 24 hours to issue a public apology and set the record straight.

Norhizam, popularly known as “YB Hulk”, said he would not hesitate to take legal action if those responsible fail to comply with his demand within the stipulated period.

He said the video, which went viral on the Threads platform, was an old recording, although he could not recall the exact date of the incident.

“The video is very old. I am giving them 24 hours from the time it started circulating. If my name is not cleared, legal action will be taken.

“I don’t need to make a big fuss. The law is there, and that’s all,” he said, according to Berita Harian.

He was commenting on a video circulating on Threads through the account “faizanzania”, which allegedly showed him arguing with officers from a local authority who were attempting to seize potted plants behind his house on grounds that they were obstructing a walkway.

Norhizam said the video’s recirculation had tarnished his reputation as he seeks to reclaim the Pengkalan Batu seat in the Melaka state election.

He also claimed the move was akin to a form of “psychological warfare”, as certain parties were worried about his re-emergence in the contest for the seat.

Norhizam was a member of DAP when elected to the Pengkalan Batu seat in the 2018 state election. He left the party in 2020, declaring himself an independent assemblyman supporting the Umno-led state government.

He was among four assemblymen who withdrew support for then chief minister Sulaiman Ali, which led to a fresh election being called in 2021.

He sought to defend the Pengkalan Batu seat as an independent that year but lost to Barisan Nasional’s (BN) Kalsom Noordin, who won by a narrow 131-vote majority in a five-cornered fight.

In the upcoming election, Norhizam will face BN’s Siti Aisyah Mahmood, Pakatan Harapan’s Jason Tse-Xi Nathan and Bersama’s Goh Han Koon. - FMT
