PETALING JAYA:
The families of 28 of the 54 Malaysian victims of the Nepal floods on Aug 26 will receive benefits under the Social Security Organisation (Perkeso), says human resources minister R Ramanan.

Ramanan said the 28 victims met Perkeso’s contribution requirements, entitling their next of kin to a total payout of RM174,000.

The benefits comprise immediate financial aid of RM3,000 a victim, and a survivors’ pension under the Invalidity Scheme.

“I understand that to this day, these families continue to face uncertainty regarding the fate of their loved ones. I am well aware that no form of assistance can truly alleviate such anxiety.

“Nevertheless, on behalf of the government, I do not want these families, especially those who have lost their primary breadwinners, to bear their burden alone,” Bernama quoted him as saying at Menara Perkeso today.

Ramanan said Perkeso had conducted a thorough review to ensure that no eligible person was overlooked or excluded from receiving the protection.

“The pension disbursement process will be carried out as soon as all relevant information and documentation are complete,” he said.

He said his ministry was also looking into the needs of the families of victims with no Perkeso contribution records.

“Through the social synergy programme, Perkeso will help connect the affected families with 990 strategic partners, including 130 agencies nationwide, to identify other suitable forms of assistance and ease their burden,” he said.
