PKR Youth deputy chief Chiew Choon Man says the decision is particularly relevant following the implementation of Undi18 and automatic voter registration.

PKR Youth deputy chief Chiew Choon Man said the move is particularly relevant following the implementation of Undi18 and automatic voter registration.
It would also give a new generation the opportunity to prove their leadership capabilities while bringing fresh perspectives to address current challenges, he said.
Chiew described PH’s decision to place its trust in young candidates as a bold move that should be welcomed, noting that many prominent national leaders had also embarked on their leadership journeys at a young age.
“I hope that voters will give these bright young candidates a chance to prove themselves as leaders,” he said in a statement.
PH is fielding several young candidates in the Melaka polls on Nov 14.
They include Mukhlisul Mubin Julasapiyah, 24, in Kuala Linggi; Farzana Hayani Nasir, 26, in Kelebang; Jason Tze-Xi Nathan, 31, in Pengkalan Batu; and P Denesh, 37, in Asahan.
Chiew, who is also the deputy tourism, arts and culture minister, shared his experience of being elected as the Miri MP at the age of 31 before being appointed to the government administration in December 2025.
He said serving as an elected representative gave young leaders the opportunity to learn the intricacies of governance, understand policies and address the day-to-day needs of the community.
He also welcomed the roles played by Adam Adli, now the deputy higher education minister, and former assemblyman Ginie Lim in leading PH’s Melaka campaign, noting that both had risen to national prominence in their early 20s. - FMT
