What does the Quran say? Here is Surah 10:100
Wa maa kaa-na li-nafsi an tu'minuu : And it is not for anyone to believe
illa bi-iznillaah : except with the permission of Allah
wa-yaj- 'alu al rijsa : And He will place doubt / damnation
'alal laziina : UPON THOSE
LAA YA'KILOON : WHO DO NOT USE COMMON SENSE !!
Here are FIVE other English translations of the same verse Surah 10:100 :
Khalifa : No soul can believe except in accordance with Allah's will. For He places a curse upon those who refuse to understand.
Muhammad Pickthall : It is not for any soul to believe save by the permission of Allah. He hath set uncleanness upon those who have no sense.
Shakir : And it is not for a soul to believe except by Allah's permission; and He casts uncleanness on those who will not understand.
Sher Ali : And no soul can believe except by the permission of ALLAH. And HE causes HIS wrath to descend on those who would not use their judgment.
Yusuf Ali : No soul can believe, except by the will of Allah, and He will place doubt (or obscurity) on those who will not understand
