PETALING JAYA – The Sultan of Johor, Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar has intervened to resolve a controversy involving the demolition of an 80-year-old Hindu temple in Seri Alam, Johor.
Tunku Temenggong Johor, Tunku Idris Sultan Ibrahim, today met several representatives of the Dewa Shree Sivasakthi Shree Sinnakaruppar Devotees Association at Istana Bukit Pelangi to discuss the matter.
The Sultan said he would personally ensure a new site is made available expeditiously by the state government to rebuild the temple.
Sultan Ibrahim and Tunku Idris also pledged RM100,000 and RM70,000, respectively, to the temple committee for expenses in relocating the temple.
The Sultan urged all concerned to extend their full cooperation to resolve the incident amicably, adding that there was no need to blow the matter out of proportion.
The temple was demolished on Jan 11 after talks broke down between temple officials and the owner of the land the building was on.
The land owner obtained a court order in July last year for the demolition after sending several notices to the temple committee since 2015.
