Malaysian student in Spider-Man costume falls to death while taking selfie

The student, identified only as Li, is believed to have been trying to take a selfie while posing from the roof of his dormitory at the Dayeh University in Taiwan, say reports from Taiwan.
falls-from-buildingKUALA LUMPUR: A Malaysian student dressed in a Spider-Man costume was found dead near the campus of Dayeh University in Changhua, Taiwan, on Jan 3.
Taiwan News reported officials as saying they believed he had fallen while taking a selfie from the top of his dormitory.
The report only identified the student by his surname Li. His family in Malaysia has been informed.
Taiwan News quoted China Times, a Chinese language newspaper, as reporting that Li, 30, who lived in a dormitory one kilometer away from the university had told his classmates he was going to take some photos after putting on a black Spider-Man costume.
No one knows what happened next, but his body was found sprawled on the pavement below the dormitory, with a severe head injury and extensive bleeding, that evening.
Police found Li’s smartphone set on a self timer and mounted on a tripod on the top floor of Li’s five-floor dormitory.
Changhua police told Liberty Times they believed he was posing for a photo while either standing on or hanging off the ledge of the rooftop. They believe he must have lost his footing, or grip, and fallen.
According to the Taiwan News report, Li’s friends said he enjoyed engaging in cosplay, particularly as Spider-Man, and that he liked to climb and pose in his costume.
The report quoted Dayeh University dean Huang Chuan-chuan as saying the university regretted the death of Li and this was the first time such an accident had occured.
She added that the school had earlier banned parkour and other dangerous activities.
Huang said Li’s younger sister had been notified and that the university would assist in bringing Li’s family members from Malaysia to Taiwan. -FMT
