MCA believes Dr M can ‘help’ BN win Seremban

MCA believes it has a good chance of winning the Seremban seat with the help of BN’s long-serving former prime minister, Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
This, said its candidate Chong Sin Woon, is because Mahathir is now leading the opposition.
According to Free Malaysia Today, Chong argued in the last general election Chinese voters supported DAP because of their battlecry “Ubah” (change) promising a change of government.
“Previously, 85 percent of the Chinese community supported a change of government, but now those who believe that the government can change is increasingly small,” Chong told FMT today.
He attributed this to Mahathir now leading the opposition front Pakatan Harapan.
“DAP faces a big problem in explaining to the Chinese why they support Mahathir to be the prime minister, since they have always criticised Mahathir.
“If they want him to save the country, it is not a simple matter to explain to the Chinese,” he was reported telling the news site.
Chong added that the Malay Seremban electorate will be one of MCA’s targets, as the constituency has 44 percent Malay voters, 41 percent Chinese and 14 percent Indian.
According to FMT, the controversially proposed redelineation, if pushed through before the general election, would shift the percentage of Chinese voters to the Malays by four percent in the Negeri Sembilan parliamentary constituency
DAP first won the MCA seat in 2008 with 32,970 votes (3,948 majority), and in 2013 DAP’s Anthony Loke increased the majority to 12,553, bagging 45,628 votes.
Chong is however confident, saying BN’s internal problems of the past have been solved.
“This time around, we don’t have such issues. The party’s internal issues have also largely been solved,” he was reported as saying.- Mkini
