Saudi Arabia Paying Yemen War Reparations Already??

Image result for Saudi Arabia Paying Yemen War Reparations Already??

Here is some strange news :

  • Saudi transfer US$2b to Yemen’s central bank
  • desperate calls from president and prime minister.
  • King Salman directive deposit to central bank of Yemen
  • Saudi Arabia, facing hefty budget deficit
  • govt’s authority confined to south
  • Houthi in control of capital Sanaa, much of north

My comments : This sounds like a non starter. The Houthis control the capital Sanaa and much of the country. How exactly are they going to deposit this US$2 billion in the Central Bank? Isnt the Central bank, with all its wire transfer comm facilities in Sanaa? Will someone then print a few trillion new Yemeni currency (riyals??) to be exchanged with this US$2 billion cash injection?

The entire country is under an almost 100% blockade and almost no imports can get through, including humanitarian aid. So whatever they are going to buy with this US$2 billion has to be brought into the country. Does that mean the blockade will also be lifted?

If this aid is only meant for the Sunnis and it is not meant for the Houthis (aka the Shiah people of Yemen)  wont this attract retaliation and attacks from the Houthis?

The reality is that the Houthis now have surface to air missiles. They have shot down Saudi Arabian F15s and Panavia Tornados plus other planes. The Houthis have also fired medium range ballistic missiles that have accurately reached the main Yamama Royal Palace in Riyadh as well as the Riyadh International Airport.

A school friend of mine who is a pilot says that some international airline pilots (like himself) are now refusing to fly into Saudi Arabia, or they are asking for extra 'hazardous' allowances. If a Houthi missile hits Riyadh Airport, I think inbound international flights will be cancelled.

I think this US$2 billion is to pay the Houthis some damages. Like an earnest deposit. This is my guess. If so, we should see a descalation in the Saudi aggression against Yemen. They are possibly camouflaging this US$2 billion to 'save face' and not look like the idiots they are, in the eyes of the Saudi people. The war is going nowhere and there is no good end game in sight for the Saudis.

Houthi counter attacks are increasing and more Saudi soldiers are coming home in body bags.

Or it might be another foolish move by the Saudis and the Saudi genocide against the Yemen may continue.
