'Mission impossible' Lokman claims 280 Gerakan votes in the bag

SG KANDIS POLLS | Lokman Adam conceded that he is involved in a “mission impossible”, but does not rule out the possibility of springing a surprise in tomorrow's by-election for the Sungai Kandis state seat in Selangor.
The BN candidate also claimed that 280 Gerakan members have pledged their support for the coalition.
Lokman said although Gerakan is no longer with BN, he is confident that Umno's friendship with them would provide an advantage.
“So 280 votes from Gerakan is not something we should dismiss. This is also important,” he told reporters this afternoon.
Apart from this, the Umno supreme council member believes that the Pakatan Harapan government's failure to deliver on some of its 100-day promises could turn the tide in his favour.
“I foresee a drastic shift in votes, but it remains to be seen to what extent. Nobody can thump their chest and claim it would be a walk in the park. Many things can happen.
“We may suffer a narrow defeat or otherwise...,” he added.
However, Lokman said his chances could be affected if the voter turnout was poor tomorrow.
“I hope Malay and Indian voters will come out in droves (to cast their ballots) as well as friends from MCA. If the turnout is high, then my chances of winning the seat is bright,” he added.
On the same note, Lokman said if disgruntled Harapan voters do not come out to vote, this could also benefit BN.
Lokman would be facing PKR's Mohd Zawawi Ahmad Mughni and independent candidate K Murthy.
The Sungai Kandis state seat fell vacant following the death of former PKR incumbent Mat Shuhaimi Shafiei on July 2 due to lymphoma.
In the May 9 general election, Suhaimi won the seat with a 12,480 vote majority.
Selangor is slated to witness another two by-elections – Balakong state seat on Sept 8 and Seri Seti state seat.
The Balakong seat's incumbent Eddie Ng was killed in an accident on July 20 while Seri Setia's assemblyperson Shaharuddin Badaruddin died yesterday after a protracted battle with colon cancer. - Mkini
