Nik Nazmi: New crowd size limit for PKR election campaign 'impractical'

The new rule imposing crowd size restrictions for the PKR party election campaign is impractical, said party leadership council (MPP) candidate Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad.
He said he would discuss the matter with party colleagues and may raise an objection with the central election committee.
The Setiawangsa MP had been asked to comment on Malaysiakini’s report this morning about the new campaign guidelines issued by the central election committee on Aug 19.
Among others, it bars candidates from conducting ceramah or large feasts with more than 100 attendees, or appearing in pictures in campaign materials as a group instead of an individual.
Those who breach the guidelines may face disciplinary action or disqualification from the election.
“We may raise the issue because (the party election) involves 800,000 members, so I think it is not practical if we do this 100 people at a time behind closed doors.
“On the other rules, I think there are no problems,” he told reporters today when met while attending Hari Raya Aidiladha celebrations with his constituents at PPR Kampung Air Panas, Kuala Lumpur.
Nik Nazmi is the incumbent Youth chief, but will be gunning for an MPP post in the upcoming party elections.
He is also backing Rafizi Ramli, who is contesting against the incumbent Mohd Azmin Ali, for the PKR deputy presidency.
Rafizi had complained about the new restriction in an Aug 20 letter, claiming that it would paralyse his campaigning because he is the only candidate conducting briefings with grassroots members.
He had also assembled a team for the election, and claimed that the central election committee had antagonised him with its new regulation for this reason.
However, outgoing PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail said the new regulations were meant for everyone, and were not targeted at Rafizi.
