Forty Penang assemblypersons including three opposition members were sworn in today at the first meeting of the first term of the 14th state legislative assembly.
They are led by Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, Deputy Chief Minister I Ahmad Zakiyuddin Abdul Rahman and Deputy Chief Minister II P Ramasamy.
The session was chaired by State Assembly speaker Law Choo Kiang, who was appointed for the second term.
Deputy state assembly speaker is the new Sungai Bakap assemblyperson Amar Pritpal Abdullah.
Umno Sungai Dua assemblyperson Mohammad Yusof has been elected as the state opposition leader, replacing former leader Jahara Hamid, the Teluk Ayer Tawar assemblyperson who chose not to contest a seat in the 14th national polls.
Former Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng is now a backbencher although he sits on the front row beside Saifuddin Nasution.
Lim is also Air Putih assemblyperson and Bagan MP. He is currently based in Putrajaya as the Finance Minister. Domestic Trade and Consumers Affairs Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail is Bandar Baharu MP, in addition to being Pantai Jerejak assemblyperson. - Mkini
