Police arrest babysitter to probe how baby under her care had brain bleeding

SEREMBAN: Police have detained a 23-year-old babysitter to probe how a four-month old baby boy under her care had allegedly suffered brain haemorrhage.
Seremban OCPD ACP Thiew Hock Poh said police have obtained a court order to remand the suspect for seven days (till Aug 31).
The suspect was detained at the district police station here around 9pm Friday (Aug 24).
Muhammad Ummar Zayyan Mohammad Haikal is fighting for his life at the Tuanku Ja'afar Hospital here after he was believed to have suffered the injury at his babysitter's place.
.He has been warded at the hospital's intensive care unit since Monday (Aug 20) and doctors continue to monitor his condition.
His 26-year-old mother Zura Emilia Mokhtar said Muhammad Ummar Zayyan had apparently lost consciousness at the babysitter's place after she had dropped him off.
Zura Emilia said she does not have a clue as to what could have happened to her son.
Her son now needs a ventilator to help in his breathing. She has since lodged a police report on the matter.
ACP Thiew  said the case was being probed under section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001 for abuse which carries a jail term of up to 10 years and a fine up to RM20,000 upon conviction.- Star
