Wooden caskets and baby foods are exempted from sales tax, said Customs director-general T Subromaniam.
In a statement issued today, he said the Royal Malaysian Customs Department had uploaded the revised list of proposed items which would be exempted from sales tax, as of Aug 21, 2018.
He said the statement followed claims made by Ayer Hitam MP Wee Ka Siong on Aug 23 in the Star Online titled “Balakong by-election: Cheras voters spoilt for choice in Thursday night ceramahs (talks)” which claimed that caskets and baby food were subject to sales tax.
“With this clarification, the department hopes that the issue is settled and the people and consumers are not confused,” he said.
