PETALING JAYA: Dr Maszlee Malik received support from his followers on Instagram, including a Spotify playlist created for the Education Minister after an “emotional” post.
The post on Tuesday (Nov 27) included a picture of himself captioned with the lyrics of “Numb”, a song by American Rock band Linkin Park.
Dr Maszlee’s followers on Instagram speculated that the Education Minister was feeling down at the time and they want him “stay strong” and “keep doing his best”.
Showing her support, one commenter @idayumumtaz18 said, “Stay strong, Sir. We support you and your good heart.”
Another comment by @ungkunoraini reads, “Keep going, Sir. We have a long way to go. We will always support your work.”
Follower @paulina.ebby.henry says, “Just do your best, keep your heart right and God will be with you.”
Another commenter @ekien_ishak says, “It’s not easy to satisfy everyone’s wishes. Keep going and keep positive.”
After the post, photojournalist @amirulruslan posted a Spotify playlist he created for Dr Maszlee on Twitter.
It was titled “Maszlee Music: educational tunes” with 24 songs from the 2000s.
The playlist was created based on suggestions by the photojournalists’ followers for the minister.
In another tweet, @amirulruslan said that the Education Minister can “open his ears to some songs to keep him going through the work day”.
Dr Maszlee responded to the Spotify playlist dedicated to him on Instagram on Wednesday (Nov 28), with a series of photos of his plans of the country’s education direction.
In the post, Dr Maszlee said: “Listening to my current favourite playlist dedicated to me by the people. I love the humour, but I do talk about more than black shoes.”
On July 20, Education Minister Dr Maszlee announced the black shoe ruling during a forum on education.
However, Dr Maszlee’s announcement received backlash from several parties, with many saying it was a “hasty” decision.
Dr Maszlee also launched the life-saving skills water safety programme recently, but this too received backlash from parents-teachers association, hoteliers and education action groups.
Dr Maszlee said he was upset that an initiative to promote water safety among children has been ridiculed.
