RANTAU POLLS | BN candidate Mohamad Hasan is feeling confident about defending his Rantau state seat, seven days into the by-election campaign.
Asked what challenges he is facing now, almost 15 years after he first won the seat, Mohamad replied: "There are no challenges."
The Rantau native explained that for the past 15 years he has actively carried out his responsibilities as an assemblyperson, meeting with his constituents every week despite his busy schedule as the then Negeri Sembilan menteri besar.
"I have never failed to maintain and administrate my constituency.
"Thank God this has allowed me to forge close ties (with my constituents).
"There are no issues that can disrupt my campaign. I am not an outsider," Mohamad said at a press conference in Rantau today.
Easier as he is familiar with the voters
He added that the familiarity of the voters with him also makes things easier for him.
The Rantau by-election is a four-corned fight involving Mohamad, PKR's Dr S Streram and independent candidates R Malar and Mohd Nor Yasin.
The seat fell vacant after the Federal Court upheld a decision to void Mohamad's walkover win last year.
This stemmed from the returning officer's move to block Streram from filing his nomination papers in the 2018 general election.
Mohamad also said he is planning to host a ceramah featuring PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang near the end of the campaign.
He said PAS volunteers are currently working as one unit with BN campaigners in Rantau, a sign of improving cooperation between Umno and the Islamist party. - Mkini
