PARLIAMENT | Putrajaya is finalising on the best method to implement the targeted fuel subsidy in order to prevent any chaotic situation on the day of its implementation, said Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Saifuddin Nasution.
He said the government is considering two options - either credit the amount into the bank accounts of recipients or introduce the petrol card.
On the first option, the government would base it with the implementation of Bantuan Sara Hidup (BSH), Saifuddin told Dewan Rakyat during the question-and-answer session.
However, he noted that 10 percent of BSH recipients do not have bank accounts, an issue which needs to be resolved.
On issuing the petrol card, Saifuddin said the method would enable the ministry to study the recipients' spending patterns.
He added that the data on the spending patterns would allow the ministry to plan on widening the scope of the subsidy.
