RANTAU POLLS | Former Negeri Sembilan menteri besar Mohamad Hasan has distanced himself from a Minangkabau-style house in Seremban 2, which critics say belong to him.
"In terms of design itself, it doesn't suit me.
"I am not of Minangkabau descent," Mohamad said at a press conference in Rantau today.
Social media has been rife with claims that Mohamad owns a house in Saujana Duta in Seremban 2 - said to be worth about RM6 million - which is designed with a "Minangkabau-style" roof.
Mohamad said when he was menteri besar, he had departed from the past policy for Negeri Sembilan buildings to be built in the Minangkabau style, preferring instead a Negeri Sembilan Malay style.
The traditional Negeri Sembilan Malay house design doesn't have the iconic curved roofs and "horns" of a Minangkabau house.
Mohamad said his house in Rantau, which is next door to the BN command centre where the press conference was held, is in the Negeri Sembilan Malay style.
