On eve of polling, BN turns to prayer

RANTAU POLLS | On the eve of polling day for Rantau, BN together with their PAS allies, turned to prayer and sought divine assistance to ensure victory in the by-election.
Over 250 people gathered at a field behind BN candidate Mohamad Hasan's house in Rantau to perform a solat hajat (prayer of need) and munajat (special worship).
The imam, in reciting the supplications, beseeched God to help ensure a victory for Mohamad.
"May your servant Mohamad Hasan be our representative, O Allah. Grant us aid and strength [...] grant us victory so we may carry out our duties as Muslims on this earth.
"O Allah, grant not victory to those who oppose you and are your enemies," the imamsaid in prayer.
A total of 20,804 voters are eligible to cast their ballots tomorrow for either Mohamad, PKR's Dr S Streram or independent candidates R Malar and Mohd Nor Yasin.
Speaking to reporters after the prayer session, Mohamad said he was confident of victory. However, he declined to say if he expected to win with a big majority.
"A win is enough [...] whether I win 10-0 or 1-0, it's still a win and I can get three points," he said using football terminology.
A win for Mohamed in Rantau would be a hattrick for BN after it won the Cameron Highlands and Semenyih by-elections.
Malaysiakini's survey of voters indicates that many will vote the same way they did for the Rembau parliamentary seat on May 9 last year.
This means it could be a tight race between Mohamad and Streram.
The seat fell vacant after the Federal Court upheld a decision to void Mohamad's walkover win last year.
This stemmed from the returning officer's move to block Streram from filing his nomination papers on nomination day for the 2018 general election on April 28. - Mkini
