CORONAVIRUS | Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah has announced Malaysia's 16th death due to Covid-19.
In a separate development, the police said one of its members died while on duty enforcing the movement control order (MCO) but this was not related to the virus.
In a Facebook post today, Noor Hisham said the 16th death involved patient 1334 – a 75-year-old Malaysian with a history of several chronic diseases.
Expressing his condolences, he said the patient passed away at 7.40pm but the source of the infection is still being investigated.
"He began showing symptoms for five days before being admitted to Hospital Angkatan Tentera Tuanku Mizan on March 16, and was transferred to Kuala Lumpur Hospital on March 18.
"His health deteriorated and was admitted to the intensive care unit for respiratory support. He was confirmed positive for Covid-19 on March 21," he added.
Meanwhile, on its official Facebook page, police said Cpl Mohd Masri Maguni was enforcing Ops Covid-19 in Kepala Batas, Penang, on Saturday when he fainted.
He passed away at Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital in Alor Star early this morning.
Nestle M'sia employee tests positive
In another development, Nestle Malaysia informed that one of its employees was tested positive for Covid-19.
According to Bernama, the company said the employee is in good condition and currently undergoing medical treatment.
"As soon as we were made aware of this development, we immediately reported this to the Ministry of Health for further action. The work site has been evacuated safely and we are now proceeding with full disinfection and complete sanitisation of the area.
"We have also commenced conducting detailed contact tracing and anyone who may have been in direct contact with the employee is under quarantine and will be asked to undergo the screening protocols as defined by the government," it added. - Mkini
