PETALING JAYA: A key senior minister who took his oath of office today has appealed to Malaysians to support the new government, saying people must set aside their political affiliations and focus on getting the economy back on track.
Fadillah Yusof, who has been named as the works minister, the portfolio he held under Barisan Nasional before the 2018 elections, said the public had heard enough political arguments in the last few weeks.
“It’s not about my leader versus your leader or my party is better than your party. It’s time for work, work, and more work,” he told FMT.
Fadillah said the announcement of the Cabinet yesterday should put a lid on the political crisis sparked by the collapse of the Pakatan Harapan government last month.
He said Malaysians should now close ranks to “do what’s best for the country”.
“Political stability and clear policies are key in driving the economy and attracting investments,” said the 57-year old.
Fadillah was named alongside Mohamed Azmin Ali, Ismail Sabri Yaakob and Radzi Jidin as senior ministers that would oversee several other portfolios.
Fadillah said he is focused on ensuring the efficient implementation of projects from planning to completion to maintenance.
“I will be looking at how we can optimise a limited budget to deliver quality, value-for-money projects,” he said.
But he said for this to be achieved, there must be synergy with other ministries and government agencies.
Top of his list is to speed up development of projects related to the social needs of Malaysians, including the rehabilitation of dilapidated schools.
“So I really hope the rakyat can give us their support so that we can ensure a brighter future for Malaysia.” - FMT
