CORONAVIRUS | Ministers should hold virtual press conferences so that media practitioners can cover these events while working safely at home, former deputy prime minister Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail said.
Through a media statement issued today, the former women, family and community development minister said this would ensure the safety of frontline journalists who report the latest news about the pandemic to the public.
Wan Azizah (photo), who is PKR advisory council chairperson, said this was especially so in light of the possible insufficient supply of face masks and gloves in the country.
“Ministers can record their 'press conferences' and send it to the news organisations for the journalists to prepare their news pieces.
“There are many applications now that can be used for virtual press conferences where journalists can ask questions online.
“The ministers can also then post these videos on their ministry's or individual social media accounts.
“Alternatively, press statements can also be sent to media organisations. All these measures will enable journalists to work without having to travel and will reduce their exposure to Covid-19,” Wan Azizah said.
The government imposed the movement control order nationwide on March 18, to curb the further spread of the pandemic. - Mkini
