Movement control order: Gov't exempts driving licence renewal

Malaysiakini

Those with an expired driving licence can continue to use their vehicles during the movement control order (MCO) period, said Transport Minister Wee Ka Siong in a statement today.
However, they are advised to carry a copy of their vehicle insurance if they do so.
"This means, whoever with an expired driving licence can continue to use their vehicles on the condition that the vehicle insurance is valid.
"Those with expired driving licences must renew the document within 30 days after the MCO period has ended," Wee (photo) said.
The new ruling will take effect tomorrow.
The Road Transport Department had shut down counters for licence renewals yesterday because of long queues.
Renewals can still be performed on the mySikap JPJ and MyEG websites.
Meanwhile, Wee said Puspakom inspections and health tests for GDL holders (heavy vehicle drivers) are no longer required during the MCO period.
Wee said this would ensure that supply chains, especially for food, were not disrupted during the MCO period.
He revealed that 2,753 GDL licences expire between March 24 and March 31.
He stressed that the owners of heavy vehicles plying the streets must ensure that the vehicles are insured. - Mkini
