Pahang: MB, exco and DAP reps dock salary for Covid-19 fund

Malaysiakini

CORONAVIRUS | All eleven Pahang cabinet members, including the Menteri Besar Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail, and seven DAP state lawmakers have pledged to donate 10 percent of their salary to a Covid-19 relief fund.
Wan Rosdy in a statement said the deduction would be made for three months from April to June.
"The deducted amount will be donated entirely to the Covid-19 Fund set-up by the state government.
"This decision is made as part of our duty and a show of sympathy for people from all backgrounds who are impacted by the Covid-19 outbreak," said the Jelai state assemblyperson.
In a separate statement, Pahang DAP secretary Lee Chin Chen said all seven of the party's state lawmakers will be contributing the same amount to the fund as well.
"Although DAP is the opposition in Pahang, we feel that in times of crisis, we must put down our political difference and work together," he said in a statement today.
He said that although this amount was only a small contribution, he said Pahang DAP hoped that this would encourage more people to do the same.
Pahang state secretary Sallehuddin Ishak yesterday said that 10,000 civil servants in the state, government department staff, local councillors and statutory bodies, are expected to raise some RM100,000 for the fund through similar salary deductions.
According to data from the Health Ministry, there are 56 positive Covid-19 cases recorded in Pahang so far, of 1,796 overall cases as of noon today. - Mkini
