Selangor ruler urges tabligh participants to test for Covid-19

Malaysiakini

CORONAVIRUS | Selangor ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah has called upon those who attended the tabligh gathering at Sri Petaling Mosque last month but have yet to be tested for Covid-19 to come forward.
In a social media posting yesterday, the Selangor Royal Office also highlighted the ruler's advice that Selangorians observe the movement control order (MCO).
The Sultan expressed his concern that there were some citizens who stubbornly did not observe the MCO even on the seventh day of the execution of the partial lockdown.
The ruler advised the people to adhere to the MCO to break the chain of Covid-19.
"The ruler says that the stubbornness and self-centred behaviour of these people during such a critical situation will only add problems for various parties especially to frontliners (in the fight against the disease)," said the state royal office.
The ruler urged the people to stay at home and he called on those who showed Covid symptoms to undergo health screening.
The Selangor Sultan expressed his concern that if the Covid-19 outbreak persists and the number of cases continues to rise, this will result in an extension of the MCO period.
He said this would affect the daily activities of the rakyat and impact upon the earning of the traders and small enterprises.
The ruler voiced his concerns after meeting with Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari, who briefed him about the latest developments on Covid-19 at the Istana Bukit Kayangan in Shah Alam earlier yesterday.
Selangor has the highest Covid-19 cases in the country and as of noon yesterday, a total 378 people were tested positive for the coronavirus.
Thus far, Malaysia has recorded a total 1,624 Covid positive cases with 16 fatalities.
Malaysia went to partial lockdown on March 18 and the MCO is currently effective until March 31.  - Mkini
