Ahmad Faizal Azumu, also popularly known as Peja, must not dream of being reappointed as Perak menteri besar because Umno chairperson Saarani Mohamad has majority support, says former Perak state exco Aziz Bari.
"The majority is with Saarani. That means, by the 'law of democracy', it's him (as the new Perak menteri besar)," he told Malaysiakini.
The DAP Tebing Tinggi assemblyperson said that the former Perak menteri besar has to look in the mirror following the action he took against his superiors in Bersatu.
"Peja (above) has to look at himself in the mirror if he wants to be menteri besar.
"He ruined his own house (Perak state government), he went against his own master Dr Mahathir Mohamad and his mentor Mukhriz Mahathir," Aziz said.
Aziz also advised the Chenderiang assemblyperson to accept the fact that he may not hold any position in the future as he belongs in the minority party.
"Saarani's party and PAS have become the majority. He was the opposition chief in the state and it was not him who ruined the state government," he said.
Saarani, who is Kota Tampan assemblyperson, had confirmed that his name is in the candidate list for the top state post.
"All Umno state assemblypersons have signed statutory declarations to nominate only one candidate for menteri besar," Saarani (below) had said today.
This morning, Faizal tendered his resignation after an audience with Perak ruler Sultan Nazrin Shah at Istana Kinta.
This followed the fall of the Pakatan Harapan state government in the state.
"With my resignation, the state executive council members are also no more with immediate effect.
"I will leave it to the sultan to appoint a new menteri besar and form a new state government," he told reporters after leaving the palace.
Faizal also noted that Bersatu had renominated him as the next menteri besar.
Faizal, along with three other Bersatu representatives, had pledged support for the Perikatan Nasional (PN) pact.
Perak Harapan was also hit with a second wave of defections immediately after PN declared it would form a new state government.
Two of the defectors - Paul Yong (Tronoh assemblyperson) and A Sivasubramaniam (Buntong) - were from DAP while Hasnul Zulkarnain Abd Munaim (Titi Serong) was from Amanah.
With this, the current alignment in Perak will see PN with 32 seats on the government bench, while the opposition bench will have 24 members. - Mkini
