PETALING JAYA: Senior Minister for Security Ismail Sabri Yaakob said police arrested 519 individuals yesterday over movement control order-related offences.

In a statement, he said 511 offenders were issued compound fines. Four were remanded and four were given police bail.

Most of the arrests, Ismail said, were for failing to comply with physical distancing rules (206).

Another 126 were arrested for not wearing face masks, 67 for failure to prepare necessary equipment or recording personal details, 23 for opening premises beyond permitted opening times, nine for activities at entertainment centres and 88 for other offences.

A total of 2,458 compliance task force teams were deployed to conduct checks at supermarkets, restaurants, hawkers, stalls, factories, banks, government offices, as well as land, water and air transport terminals

Ismail also said police arrested six illegal immigrants and confiscated three vehicles in the ongoing Ops Benteng.

Regarding the mandatory home quarantine, Ismail said 62,490 people who arrived through KLIA were screened for Covid-19 from July 24 to Nov 7 and were placed under quarantine.

A total of 384 tested positive and were sent to hospital for treatment, while 52,791 have been allowed to return home.

Some 9,315 people are now undergoing mandatory quarantine. - FMT
