KUALA LUMPUR: Four to six episodes of significant heavy rain are expected to occur during the annual northeast monsoon season which is expected to set in from Nov 11 and last until March.
The Meteorological Department said heavy rains were expected in Kelantan, Terengganu and Pahang from November to December, while Pahang, Johor, Sabah and Sarawak will have heavy rain from January.
“The second phase of the monsoon season, from January, would bring dry weather to northern states (Kedah, Penang and Perlis) and Kelantan,” the department said.
MetMalaysia said continuous heavy rains for several days could cause floods in low-lying areas and flood-prone areas, especially if it coincided with high tides.
Rough seas and big waves could be expected in the South China Sea. - FMT
