A baby girl, who is believed to have just been born, was found alive and well after being left on the mailboxes of a flat at block 47, Tingkat Paya Terubong 4, Paya Terubong in Penang today.
Northeast District Police chief ACP Soffian Santong said a resident there found a dark blue backpack on the mailboxes of the block of flats at 12.40pm and upon checking found the baby girl in it.
“The baby was wrapped in a white towel and investigations found that her umbilical cord had been cut. No documents were found in the bag,” he said when contacted today.
Soffian said preliminary checks by medical officers at the scene found no injuries on the baby, who was then taken to the Penang Hospital for further monitoring.
He added that they were continuing with their investigations and anyone with information on the case to contact police.
“So far there are no witnesses and the area also does not have closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras. We are still trying to find the baby’s mother and the person who left the baby there,” he said.
