KUALA LUMPUR: Gabungan Pelajar Melayu Semenanjung (GPMS) has urged that teaching and learning (PdP) activities for Form Five students sitting for Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) to continue, despite the move to delay the exam.
Its president Mohd Alif Anas Md Noor said while he welcomed the Education Ministry's decision to close schools nationwide to curb the spread of Covid-19, the postponement was a "big obstacle" for SPM candidates.
"Therefore, GPMS sees a need for PdP to continue to ensure that candidates are ready to sit for this major examination.
"GPMS takes note that the Education Ministry has introduced the TV Pendidikan programme which started during the first Movement Control Order.
"We ask that the ministry continues and enhances this programme," he said in a statement today.
Alif expressed hope that the programme would be expanded to all television stations to ensure that all children could effectively follow the programme.
Education Minister Dr Radzi Jidin earlier announced that all schools nationwide would be closed until the end of this year's school term, on Dec 17. Schools in category B would close until Dec 18, in efforts to control the Covid-19 infection.
The closure, which begins tomorrow, also applies to vocational colleges registered under the ministry.
The Education Ministry also decided to move the dates for SPM, Sijil Vokasional Malaysia (SVM) and Sijil Tinggi Agama Malaysia (STAM) to Feb 22, 2021; while Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran Malaysia (STPM) would now be held on March 8, 2021. - NST
