KUALA LUMPUR: The Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, extended his condolences to the family of national football legend Datuk Mohamad Bakar who died today.
Expressing his sadness over the passing of Mohamad, His Majesty hoped that his family would be patient in their moment of grief.
"His deeds, services, and contributions are highly appreciated and his death is a huge loss to the country's football arena," according to a posting on the official Istana Negara's Facebook page.
Mohamad began his football career with Penang in the 60s before joining the national squad which qualified for the 1972 Olympics in Munich, Germany.
He was also the assistant coach for the 1980 Moscow Olympics squad and Harimau Malaya head coach in 1985. -- BERNAMA
