The decomposed body of a man believed to have died about three weeks ago was found in a four-wheel drive (4WD) Nissan Navara at an oil palm plantation in Cherang Nibong, Ajil yesterday afternoon.
Hulu Terengganu District Police chief DSP Mohd Adli Mat Daud said the police received a call about the body’s discovery at 5pm and a team was mobilised to the scene.
"The decomposed body of the man was found in the driver's seat. From the initial investigation based on the condition of the body, it is believed that the man had died about three weeks ago.
"We have identified the victim as a 31-year-old man from Kampung Tok Randok, Ajil.
"However, further investigations are underway and the body will be taken to the Hulu Terengganu Hospital’s Forensic Unit for autopsy," he said when met at the location, here today.
Mohd Adli said based on checks done on the vehicle, it is believed that the deceased was a suspect who had fled using the vehicle from the Ajil Police Station three weeks ago.
"Three weeks ago, the owner of the 4WD vehicle who is also the brother-in-law (of the deceased) had brought him to the Ajil Police Station in connection with a drug case, but he fled with the vehicle while his brother-in-law was inside the station," he said.
Meanwhile, Yusoff Mat Noh, 60, who found the body, said he had seen the deceased in the vehicle at the same place on Tuesday.
"Vehicles stopping by at this oil palm plantation is normal, that's why I thought nothing was amiss when I saw the man in the car on Tuesday evening.
"I thought he was resting in the driver's seat. However, this afternoon, while looking for my cow, I found that the man was in the vehicle in the same place with flies swarming around," he said.
