PARLIAMENT | A Sabah MP has called for Jeffrey Kitingan (PN-Keningau) to be disciplined for coming to Parliament before completing his 14 days of self-quarantine upon returning from Sabah.
Chan Foong Hing (Harapan-Kota Kinabalu) said this was in violation of an order that all lawmakers from Sabah had received.
"I am not referring to any quarantine rule set by the Health Ministry. But what is important (to note) is that all MPs from Sabah received a letter dated Oct 9 asking us to be quarantined for 14 days.
"So why was Keningau exempted?" he asked in the Dewan Rakyat today.
He said a motion to refer Kitingan (above) to the Rights and Privileges Committee had been submitted yesterday.
Dewan Rakyat deputy speaker Rashid Hasnon said the motion would be reviewed.
Kitingan, who is also a Sabah deputy chief minister, had returned to Kuala Lumpur from the state on Nov 12 and was supposed to be in quarantine until Thursday.
However, he appeared in Parliament yesterday, causing an uproar amongst opposition MPs following which he was asked to leave the House.
However, the Dewan Rakyat was later informed that the Health Ministry had released the Keningau MP from quarantine early.
Health Minister Dr Adham Baba also announced yesterday evening that those flying out of Sabah no longer need to be quarantined for 14 days.
Kitingan's presence in the Dewan Rakyat could be important for the Perikatan Nasional government.
This is as support for Budget 2021 is uncertain with Umno's loyalty to the government fluctuating. - Mkini
