MySejahtera not being used to track down Medan 88 residents - Health DG

The Health Ministry has denied that it's MySejahtera application is being used to track down Medan 88 residents who fled the enhanced movement control order (MCO) imposed on Bandar Baru Salak Tinggi.

Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the app is strictly for them to conduct active contact tracing when there is a Covid-19 positive case.

"This MySejahtera app belongs to the MOH. It is not true that the app is being used to track down (those who fled).

"Only when there is a positive case would the MOH use the data collected through MySejahtera to assist us in contact tracing.

"We will protect the privacy (of users), and utilise the app only when the need arises," he told a press conference in Putrajaya today.

Noor Hisham was responding to news reports yesterday which said that police are using MySejahtera to find some 400 Medan 88 residents who were said to have left the area before the enhanced MCO was implemented there.

The area was placed under a 14-day lockdown beginning Thursday (Nov 12) after Covid-19 cases were detected there.

MySejahtera is an application developed following the Covid-19 pandemic, aimed at helping authorities in contact tracing.

The app was later made compulsory for all business premises. - Mkini
