Police have arrested a 45-year-old man accused of molesting a nine-year-old girl.
According to police, the man is husband to the child's babysitter. He was detained and handed over to the police by the child's uncle.
The incident occurred on Nov 3 (Tuesday) when the suspect entered the victim's home on the pretence of returning her face mask. The girl was home alone at the time.
Once inside, the suspect convinced the girl to sit beside him, after which he molested her.
The girl then began to scream and the man fled. The girl then informed her aunt of the incident.
The aunt and her husband encountered the suspect last night on their way home from work - 17 days after the incident.
The uncle reportedly called out to the suspect who then tried to flee.
A scuffle ensued between the two men after which the suspect was brought to the police.
Police then arrested the suspect and today secured a seven-day remand order for him.
Petaling Jaya police deputy chief Ku Mashariman Ku Mahmood said in a statement that police are investigating the case under Section 14(a) of the Child Sexual Offences Act.
If convicted, the man can be sentenced to jail up to 20 years and whipped.
It is not clear whether the girl's parents or the aunt had lodged a police report over the matter prior to the suspect's arrest. - Mkini
