Noh rejects PAC membership

 

Tanjung Karang MP Noh Omar has turned down his appointment as a member of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC).

The Umno supreme council member and former cabinet minister said he had informed BN chairperson Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Dewan Rakyat speaker Azhar Azizan Harun of his decision.

"I am voluntarily announcing my withdrawal from the PAC effective immediately.

"I hope the PAC will continue to play their role in ensuring the management of the country's finances proceeds smoothly," he wrote on his Facebook page.

The PAC is a powerful bipartisan committee of MPs who can scrutinise government spending, agencies and call witnesses to testify at hearings.

Membership in the PAC is an unsalaried position. However, members can make claims similar to MPs should they attend PAC meetings that are not held concurrently with Dewan Rakyat proceedings.

New PAC members were announced by Azhar yesterday.

The current PAC is headed by Wong Kah Woh (Harapan-Ipoh Timur) and assisted by Azizah Mohd Dun (Bersatu-Beaufort). - Mkini
