GEORGE TOWN: An ambulance carrying Sergeant Norihan Tari, who was shot while on duty at the Malaysia-Thailand border in Perlis yesterday morning, arrived at the Penang Hospital here at 9.20pm.
It is learnt that the ambulance left the Tuanku Fauziah Hospital in Perlis about 7.40pm. It was escorted by a police car along the way.
A car, carrying two family members, arrived here about 9.35pm.
Norihan was transferred here to undergo surgery to remove the bullets lodged inside him.
It is learnt that he had underwent a surgery at Tuanku Fauziah Hospital earlier today.
Several medical personnel were on standby at the Emergency and Trauma Department here to receive him.
Also present was northeast district police chief Assistant Commissioner Soffian Santong.
Norihan and his colleague, Sergeant Baharuddin Ramli, both General Operations Force (GOF) personnel, were shot in an incident about 3.10am yesterday.
Baharuddin died on the spot while Norihan was seriously wounded in the shootout with a group of smugglers.
The two had been on duty at the Malaysia-Thailand border in Perlis. - NST
