'Not a single person should go hungry' - Maszlee launches food aid for constituents

Maszlee Malik has launched a food aid programme targeting families in his constituency in Johor, who are struggling to make ends meet because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

"I believe that no matter what happens, not a single person in Simpang Renggam should go hungry in this day and age,” he said in a statement.

Therefore, the former education minister said he decided to launch the #SimpangTakLapo! programme.

"Poor families, single mothers, families with children who are disabled or anyone with no food at home, can apply for food packs under this programme.

"InsyaAllah, the first 50 packs for the first 50 applicants can be collected at the Simpang Renggam parliament service centre today," he added.

The Simpang Renggam MP said those who are unable to collect their food packs can contact his officer at 011-39697288.

Whereas those who require aid can submit their applications online.

Maszlee is now an independent MP. Yesterday, he announced his withdrawal from former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad's yet-to-be registered party, Pejuang.

The academic-turned-politician, who is a first-term MP, pledged to continue his efforts for education reform through his capacity as an independent lawmaker and networking with NGOs and activists. - Mkini
