SOPs on wedding registrations, childcare centres soon - Ismail

COVID-19 | The government will be making pronouncements on the latest standard operating procedures (SOPs) for wedding registrations and childcare centres soon.

While wedding receptions remain forbidden under the conditional movement control order (MCO) rules, Defence Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said today that couples will be able to register their marriages soon.

“I have been made to understand that the Religious Affairs Minister (Zulkifli Mohamad Al-Bakri) will present an SOP for wedding registrations (pernikahan) tomorrow.

“We (the National Security Council) will hear from him tomorrow,” he said.

According to the minister, the SOP will provide for non-Muslim and Muslim marriages.

States, which have jurisdiction over religious matters, will be able to interpret the guidelines once the federal government announces them.

Social events like wedding receptions and birthday parties are prohibited under conditional MCO guidelines.

All federal territories and nine states are presently under the conditional MCO. Unaffected are Sarawak, Kelantan, Pahang and Perlis.

Ismail added that Women, Family and Community Development Minister Rina Harun will be coming up with a set of SOPs for childcare centres.

As schools nationwide close, more working parents are now in need of such services.

“Rina is looking closely into this and she will make an announcement on childcare centres (taska) soon. Let us wait for her announcement on that.

“(The issue) was presented during today’s meeting and we asked her to come up with a tight SOP,” he said.  - Mkini
