Parliament's Public Accounts Committee can now resume its functions with the naming of 12 new members, nearly three months after the appointment of its chairperson and deputy chairperson.
The PAC's chairperson Wong Kah Woh (Pakatan Harapan-Ipoh Timur) and deputy chairperson Azizah Mohd Dun (Bersatu-Beaufort) were appointed on Aug 27 and together with Nurul Izzah Anwar (Harapan-Permatang Pauh), were the only three members retained from the previous Harapan administration.
In a statement, Dewan Rakyat Speaker Azhar Azizan Harun (above) today named the following as PAC members - Nurul Izzah, Mohd Fasiah Mohd Fakeh (Bersatu-Sabak Bernam), Yamani Hafez Musa (Bersatu-Sipitang), Ahmad Maslan (BN-Pontian), Noh Omar (BN-Tanjong Karang), Jalaluddin Alias (BN-Jelebu), Lukanisman Awang Sauni (GPS-Sibuti), Ahmad Fadhli Shaari (PAS-Pasir Mas), Ahmad Tarmizi Sulaiman (PAS-Sik), Dr Mohd Hatta Ramli (Harapan-Lumut), Wong Shu Qi (Harapan-Kluang) and Ahmad Hassan (Warisan-Papar).
After the change of government in March, five PAC members became ministers or deputy ministers and the committee had not met since then.
Last Thursday, Kah Woh had urged Azhar to ensure that new PAC members are sworn in by this week as the committee needed to make up for lost time.
He said the PAC was unable to carry out its duties due to the vacancies but plans have been made for a series of briefings and other matters, including tabling at least two reports in the coming weeks. - Mkini
