Top Glove workers' dormitory in Klang now under enhanced MCO

The workers' dormitory of rubber glove manufacturer Top Glove in Klang has become the latest location to be placed under the enhanced movement control order (MCO), announced Senior Minister (Security) Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

This came after 215 Covid-19 positive cases were recorded there as of Nov 15, he said.

"The special meeting of the National Security Council today agreed that the enhanced MCO would be imposed on the workers' dormitory of Top Glove from Nov 17 to 30," he said.

The affected area includes both male and female dormitories as well as the surrounding Jalan Abadi 1A/KU8, Jalan Abadi 10A/KU8, and Jalan Abadi 1A.

Some 13,190 staff and close to 1,200 residents in the area will be affected by the order.

However, Top Glove, which can continue to operate during the enhanced MCO period, must carry out Covid-19 screening for its remaining workers and other dormitories that were not affected by the lockdown, according to the minister.

"Top Glove must carry out sanitation for all their factory staff, and the dormitories which channel workers for their factories.

"For the area placed under the enhanced MCO, the Health Ministry will provide screening for all their workers while the factory, which is yet to be closed down, we urged them to provide screening for all workers and carry out sanitation," he said.

Meanwhile, Ismail Sabri also announced enhanced MCO against a Health Ministry's training institute in Johor Bahru to be lifted effectively today as the government found the pandemic at the institute is now under control.

A total of 33 Covid-19 positive cases, with the last recorded on Nov 10 at the institute, he said.

Similarly, the enhanced MCO imposed on the temporary detention centre at Kota Kinabalu two week ago, Kepayan Prison and staff quarters in Kampung Matambai, Kota Kinabalu, since Oct 20, will end today.

Kepayan Prison recorded 1,857 Covid-19 cases while the detention centre at Kota Kinabalu saw 425 individuals infected. However, the active cases in both areas reduced to six last Saturday.

These areas are now effectively placed under conditional MCO. - Mkini
